How long did it take to get your first novel / book published?
It took me 19 years to write the entire story line. There are a total of 4 books for The Foretold Story Book Series. It’s actually a trilogy because the first book is cut into 2 parts.
What mistakes did you make with the publishing of your first book which you try not to repeat?
Never try to rush things through. Patience is indeed a great attribute to have. I learned that from a very young age.
Can you focus on working on two books or stories at the same time?
Yes. It took me 19 years to present this novel because I was constantly working on multiple projects at once. In addition to creating the novel, I am an artist. I have a lot of other projects that I am working on such as film, art and a few other things to add on the list… But yes, I can focus on multiple projects at once.
Is there a modus operandi you follow and formulate before you actually start writing your next book?
Yes, there is a modus operandi that I follow before I actually start becoming creative. I have my nice cup of tea with ginger slices or a chai tea latte. My Star Wars original 1980’s tee-shirt, and I have my favorite composer Ivan Torrent playing.
To complete this modus operandi I also have my original character PB, The Angry Paper Bag button. He’s featured on page 4 of my novel. He is my stamp and mascot of my work. After all items are accounted for – I begin. This practice takes place all of the time as I live life, and as I live life, I constantly create. It’s in my DNA. Non-stop.
Does the writer’s block actually exist? Any tips you would give to come out of it?
Yes, for me, when I run into writers block it usually means I am exhausted and need to take a break and do what I call “Creative Recharge.” – which means – “To step away from my work and go spend time in prayer, nature, and sharing magical new adventures with family and loved ones.”
It also means to rest. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes its genuine writer’s block which means you have no idea what to do next and it may be time sensitive. In that case, you need to be able to go into your stashed away book of ideas to bypass the block. Thus, why I always have a sketchbook and a notebook with me at all times.
How often do you read other novels? Who are your favorite authors?
I do read lots of books and watch movies often with subtitles. I read comic books. Music. Lyrics. Poems. Analyze video games.
I don’t really have a favorite. Well actually, I have a favorite manga… It’s The Legend of Zelda series by Akira Himekawa. But I like a variety of things to read.
