THE FOOD REVIEW:
What we sampled at the Ministry of Crab, Mumbai:
Avocado crab salad – Shredded crab meat with a mild tinge of wasabi needs to be scooped with the avocado to seep the flavours. Avocado per se is a bland fruit but that’s the perfect start for a crabby affair.
Avocado tomato salad – Healthy, flavourful, fresh and bright. A perfect side dish.
Clay pot prawn curry – It could never get saucier and spunkier. Dip the Kade bread in the haunting gravy. Loved it.
Goan curry (veg) – The slurp slurp magical lilting flavours for the vegetarian in your group. Surely the name is a misfit since it didn’t match the Goan curry flavours. But yes, like I said its slurpy and went well with the thick rice.
Kade bread – Nothing unusual but soft and supreme, blended well with the gravies.
Pepper Crab – Delectable and endearing.
Garlic Chilli crab – A ‘maar daala’ creation. Wish the gravy portion were more spread to mingle with the crab meat. This one was glistening, mildly sweet and perfectly cooked. The gravy wasn’t too pasty or fluidy, it had the perfect consistency. Would have loved an extra spice tinge in most of the crab servings.
Butter Crab – Was a wee bit let down with this one. The oozing butter tones were missing from the earlier, gooey and rich butter crabs I have tasted.
The story of Cacao – Coconut and chocolate mousse creatively and perfectly encased to look like a Cacao bean. Not just a visual treat but a perfect masterpiece.
French toast with vanilla ice cream – Savoury, pristine and divine. Not too sweet but worth trying.
Bitter chocolate ice cream (vegan) – Na, not so great.
Most of the cocktails had an initial zing flavour which vanished after the third sip.
ARYEMANSAYSSO – MoC Mumbai should take a relook at the spice levels!
